Cherenkov Astronomy Data School 2025
Organizer(s) : Pierre Cristofari (LUX)
Location : Observatoire - Site de Paris
Summary
The aim of this international school is to teach the analysis of astrophysical data from high-energy gamma-ray instruments (CTAO, HESS/VERITAS/MAGIC, HAWC/SWGO). This will be its second edition, the first having taken place on October 14-18, 2024 (https://indico.obspm.fr/event/2480/) with 28 participants.
It will focus on two themes: introductions to high-energy phenomena, instrumental and statistical techniques, followed by practical sessions using the Gammapy high-level open data analysis library, officially selected by the CTA observatory as its central open analysis library (Science Analysis Tool). It will run from Monday afternoon to Friday lunchtime.
This school is aimed at the new generation of PhD students (hence its organization for October 2025), as well as experienced users (students, post-docs or researchers).
It is organized by the APC, with R. Terrier (Lead Developer of Gammapy) and B. Khélifi (Gammapy Project Manager) and Observatoire de Paris, specifically with the LUTh gamma group. Speakers will be invited from the Paris region (IN2P3, INSU or universities), as well as probably the two main members of the Gammapy developer team (sub-package maintainers) who are based in Europe.
Edition 2024 was a success, with theoretical courses (Advanced Statistics, Data Analysis and Physical Interpretation) and practical courses (4 half-days of practical work for advanced users and beginners).
Preliminary program
Theoretical courses (2 days, Advanced Statistics, Data Analysis and Physical Interpretation) and practical courses (6 half-day practical sessions for advanced users and beginners), for 50 people.
